Care and Use:

These bowls are finished with a walnut oil/beeswax mix and milk paint making them food safe and durable. If you do choose to use these bowls for food they can be cleaned with warm soapy water. Do not put them in the dishwasher. Wood is hydroscopic which it means it draws in or loses water depending on the ambient environment. If left to soak in water the wood fibers will absorb moisture making it expand increasing chances of cracking. Also, if it has soaked and is left in a hot and dry environment this rapid drying can cause the wood fibers to move at different rates increasing the risks of developing cracks. Wood continues to move slightly through out it’s existence. The bowl will patina over time and if you use it frequently you may choose to add some oil to the surface. I suggest walnut oil or heat treated linseed oil (be sure this is food safe and does not contain solvents).

This bowl is food safe. Hand wash only and avoid leaving the bowl to soak. Wood continues to move throughout its existence. Rapid drying or the soaking of a bone-dry piece will increase the likelihood of cracks. This bowl will patina over time but feel free to apply food safe oil to the surface as you see fit. Enjoy!
